Sakura - the symbolic flower of Japan
Sakura are like fleeting dreams.
Their beauty in full bloom, and their fleeting appearance,
It's like capturing a moment of brilliance.
That's why people are captivated by cherry blossoms.
Because it is short, it is beautiful.
That kind of ephemeral beauty is the charm of cherry blossoms.
A surprise proposal photo under the sakura trees
iEvery year at the end of March, people from all over the world gather to witness this fleeting beauty. Among them were Benny and Nicolette, who came from San Francisco.
After dating for 10 years, they finally managed to make time for an overseas trip together at the end of March. They chose Japan as their destination, as they both wanted to visit the settings of their favorite anime and Japanese films.
But for Benny, there was another secret plan. It was to convey his desire to share his future with Nicolette against the backdrop of the beautiful scenery.
He contacted us about the photoshoot about a month before the actual date. He wanted to visit one of the most beautiful places in Tokyo for cherry blossoms and propose in a surprise manner.
After learning about their itinerary and schedule, we suggested several locations. We also discussed in detail the timing of our meeting with them on the day of the shoot, as well as the best location for the proposal.
A beautiful moment under the rain
Unfortunately, it was raining so hard on that day.
As a photographer, I actually like shooting in the rain, as rain adds some nice atmosphere, with pinky carpet on the ground, and also keeps the crowd away.
In fact, at the park where hundreds of people having picnics, it was their exclusive time.
Whilst capturing the moment itself, I also allow time for a small portrait session afterwards. As far as package goes, I visit the park at least 15 min. early to scout the site and do some planing to avoid mishaps of the moment.
We work together to fine-tune the timing, both before the shoot and on the actual day
Unfortunately, it was a heavy rain on the day of the shoot. You see, the cherry blossom season is actually known for its unpredictable weather.
However, rainy days have a unique beauty of their own. The cherry blossom petals scattered on the ground create a gorgeous pink carpet, and, above all, it transforms the usually crowded park into a private space for just the two of them.
On the day of the shoot, I arrived at the park about 30 minutes earlier. I searched for a cherry blossom tree that would be perfect for the proposal.
Once I decided on a location, I sent Benny a pin on Google Maps to let him know the exact spot. I also explained to him how to get there once he entered the park.
Spending one hour photographing afterword
And then, the two of them arrived. Nicolette was moved to tears by the unexpected surprise.
After that, we spent about an hour walking around the park while taking photos.
The park, which is usually overflowing with more than 100 tourists, became a special stage for just the two of them.
We are honored if it became a special day for them.
