They came to Japan for the very first time with something deeply personal in mind.
Not just to see the cherry blossoms, but to begin their marriage quietly — with an intimate ceremony in Tokyo and cherry blossom wedding photos in Japan to remember it by.
Traveling from Sweden, they chose a simple plan: a private embassy wedding, no grand reception, just the two of them in a country they had never visited before.
March 20 is usually a little early for full sakura bloom in Tokyo.
But with careful planning and local guidance, we found early-blooming cherry blossoms already glowing in soft pink — the perfect setting for their Tokyo elopement.
Getting Ready in Their Tokyo Hotel
Before heading out for their sakura wedding photography session, I visited the couple at their hotel in Tokyo.
For international clients, I can also arrange or provide hair and makeup upon request. Especially for couples visiting Japan for the first time, having everything coordinated smoothly allows them to relax and fully enjoy the day.
The quiet moments before the ceremony — adjusting a jacket, holding hands in anticipation, exchanging a small smile — often become some of the most meaningful photographs.
Finding Early Cherry Blossoms in Tokyo
Because the wedding date was fixed on March 20, timing was critical.
Tokyo’s main cherry blossom season usually peaks a little later. However, certain locations offer early-blooming varieties that make March elopement photography possible.
That day, we chose Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, one of the best places in Tokyo to find early sakura.
In one area of the garden, vibrant pink blossoms were already in full bloom. The rich color of the petals created a romantic backdrop that felt almost unreal — soft spring light filtering through the branches.
For one hour, they walked together beneath the blossoms, laughing, holding hands, and simply enjoying the moment.
Elopement photography in Japan is not about elaborate staging. It is about documenting genuine connection in a setting that feels extraordinary.
A Simple and Beautiful Embassy Ceremony
After the sakura session, we moved to the Embassy of Sweden in Tokyo for their ceremony.
The interior was elegant and minimal — very Scandinavian in spirit. Clean design, calm light, and a quiet atmosphere made the ceremony feel intimate and deeply personal.
It was simple, yet profoundly meaningful.
At the end of the ceremony, the embassy staff prepared a bottle of Japanese wine for a celebratory toast. A Swedish wedding in Japan, sealed with local wine — a beautiful blend of two cultures.
