Inokashira Park Engagement Photos | A Relaxed Couple Session in Tokyo

Engagement photo of a couple walking together through a shaded forest path in Inokashira Park, Tokyo, surrounded by deep green trees.

Some places are more than just beautiful—they become part of your story.

For this couple from Hong Kong, Inokashira Park wasn’t simply one of Tokyo’s most scenic parks. It was where they spent countless weekends together, where their memories in Japan began to grow, and where they became engaged.

When they asked me to photograph their engagement session, there was never any question about the location. Returning to the place that meant so much to them made every photograph feel genuine and personal.

Why Inokashira Park Is One of Tokyo’s Best Locations for Engagement Photos

If you’re planning engagement photos during your trip to Japan, Inokashira Park is one of my favourite locations to recommend.

Located in Kichijoji, just 20 minutes by train from Shinjuku, the park offers a completely different atmosphere from Tokyo’s busy shopping districts.

Instead of skyscrapers and crowded streets, you’ll find peaceful walking paths, a beautiful lake, charming bridges, and lush greenery that changes with every season.

One of the reasons I love photographing here is that the experience doesn’t end when the photo session is over.

Kichijoji is one of Tokyo’s most charming neighbourhoods, known for its relaxed atmosphere, independent cafés, small boutiques, bakeries, and local restaurants.

Many couples enjoy spending the rest of the day exploring the area together, making the engagement session feel like a memorable part of their holiday rather than simply another sightseeing stop.

For couples looking for natural, documentary-style engagement photos, Inokashira Park offers the perfect balance of beautiful scenery and a relaxed environment.

A Love Story That Began in Japan

A quiet moment between a couple smiling at each other under the trees in Inokashira Park, captured during a Tokyo engagement session.

Although they had only been living in Japan for a little over a year as international students, they had already developed a deep connection with the country.

Their Japanese was so natural that I honestly assumed they had lived here for many years.

When I asked how they became so fluent, they laughed and shared their secret.

Watching Japanese dramas over and over again—without subtitles.

What started as language practice gradually became a genuine love for Japanese culture, and before long, Japan had become their second home.

Returning to the Place Where He Proposed

Their relationship began in Hong Kong, but one of the most meaningful chapters of their story happened here in Tokyo.

On their second anniversary, he proposed at Inokashira Park.

It wasn’t an elaborate surprise or a grand public event.

It was quiet, personal, and perfectly suited to who they are.

Returning to the same place for their engagement photographs allowed them to relive those memories naturally, and that emotional connection is something no famous landmark can replace.

Photographing Real Moments, Not Perfect Poses

Playful engagement photo of a couple in Inokashira Park, Tokyo, sharing a candid moment of laughter on a park bench.

One of the things I love most about engagement photography is that every couple has a different story.

Some choose iconic places like Tokyo Tower or Senso-ji Temple.

Others dream of photographing Mt. Fuji in the background.

And some simply want to return to a place that has become part of their lives together.

Those personal locations often create the most meaningful photographs.

Rather than focusing on complicated poses, I encourage couples to walk, talk, laugh, and simply enjoy spending time together.

Those natural moments usually become their favourite images years later.

The Best Seasons for Engagement Photos at Inokashira Park

One of the reasons Inokashira Park is such a wonderful location is that it offers something beautiful throughout the year.

Spring (late March to early April)

famous for its cherry blossoms surrounding the lake.

Late spring and early summer

bring vibrant green leaves and soft natural light.

Autumn (late November to early December)

transforms the park with colourful foliage, creating a warm and romantic atmosphere.

Even winter has its own quiet beauty, especially on clear weekday mornings.

For the most relaxed experience, I generally recommend scheduling sessions on weekday mornings when the park is less crowded.
